Woman on the Verge of Homelessness Won Lottery Jackpot

A few weeks ago we published a story of a family who became millionaires just before the Christmas. In this article, we’d like to share another amazing story about a lucky lottery player who managed to save her life thanks to a huge lottery win.

Last year had been very difficult for Shawna Donnelly. The 50-year-old was forced to quit her job to look after her elderly mother.

With her savings quickly dwindling, she was facing the prospect of homelessness if things didn’t improve sooner rather than later.

Desperate for a change of luck, the Michigan woman took a chance and bought a lottery ticket from her local 7-Eleven store in Clarkston. That ticket turned out to be worth $390,000 (€317,500).

“The last year has been the most difficult of my life,” Donnelly said to American network WDIV, “I’ve been taking care of my mom full-time, and it’s hard to make ends meet. Winning this prize couldn’t have come at a better time.

Donnelly was given the option of being paid $25,000 per year for the rest of her life or receiving $390,000 as a lump sum. She chose the latter.

“I woke up in the middle of the night and had a feeling I should check my tickets. When I saw I matched five numbers, I must have refreshed my phone 100 times to make sure I really won.” She said.

Although Donnelly is planning on saving as much as the money as possible, she did admit that she’s on the lookout for a new home and car.

After the year she’s had, we can’t say we blame her.
